They Make Life Sparkle

I’m excited to share with you the first completed piece for Water Baby, titled They Make Life Sparkle. This track was inspired by a beautiful milestone in my life – the birth of my second grandchild, Elliot. It’s a celebration of that irresistible charm babies and toddlers have, how they can bring instant smiles and a special sparkle to everyone around them, simply by being themselves. Innocent, authentic and disarming.

The composition begins with a simple, sober piano melody, then gradually unfolds as a conversation between viola and cello. As the piece builds, a full string quartet joins, representing the richness of relationships as they deepen over time. And then the children enter – the music lifts, sparkles, and celebrates the beautiful chaos they bring into the world. In the end, everything gently returns to the beginning, mirroring how children grow up and eventually find their own paths.
