For me, silence is a comfortable place. Silence feels natural to me, more than speaking. Yet, it’s often misunderstood, especially in social settings, where it can be seen as sadness or detachment. Inevitably, someone asks, “You’re being so quiet. What’s on your mind?”
That sudden question can feel like a stone breaking the calm surface, creating a sense of agitation. Ripples. It’s not the question itself that’s unsettling; it’s the pressure of being pulled out of the peaceful rhythm of listening. Pushed into the spotlight when I’m not ready to speak.

Let Me Be Quiet captures that feeling. Shifting between calm observation and sudden disquiet. Balancing a state of silent comfort and the uneasy disruption of being compelled to express thoughts or emotions. Moments of tension and release weave through the piece, mirroring the internal push and pull of wanting to stay in the background while feeling the weight of expectation.
The music expresses these emotions through subtle dynamics and contrasts. The gentle, flowing melodies evoke the serenity of listening, while the tempo changes and ostinato patterns reflect the jarring interruption of being thrust into the spotlight. It’s a deeply personal piece, but I imagine this feeling might be familiar to some of you as well.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the track and how it resonates with you. Thank you for joining me in exploring the stories behind the music. Your support means everything as I continue this journey.
Warmly, Allan.
