Avoiding The Friction

Updated: Jul 12

There’s a moment I often find myself caught in — when something inside says “speak up,” but another voice whispers, “don’t make it worse.”

This track was born from that tension. The quiet wrestling between standing up for what feels right and the temptation to keep the peace, to avoid the discomfort of confrontation. It’s a space I know well — maybe you do too.

Avoiding The Friction isn’t about choosing one side. It’s about that in-between place — the hesitation, the self-doubt, the internal dialogue that loops in the background of so many interactions.

Musically, I tried to capture the fragility of that state of mind with restrained harmonies, contrasting short, high-pitched string swells with the tranquility of gentle flowing ostinatos. These elements pull in opposite directions, just like the feeling itself — fragile, yet persistent.

It’s not a heroic piece, but it's an honest one. And in a world that often celebrates being loud and confident, I wanted to write something for the quiet tension that lives just beneath.

Let me know what it stirs up for you.
